The North East,
Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Southern Provincial Councils have taken a considerable
interest in the development of solar electrification solutions in
rural areas unlikely to be served by the grid in the medium to long
term. The latter three, given the micro hydro potential in their respective
provinces, also support the development of off-grid village hydro
schemes set up by rural communities. These Provincial Councils conduct
periodic meetings with project developers, suppliers and Electricity
Consumer Societies ECSs to discuss problems and seek solutions. In
addition, Provincial Councils provide supplementary grant assistance
for off-grid village hydro schemes.
